People embarrass themselves by overestimating their importance. They presume their acceptance means something, as if their opinion carried enough gravity for its absence to even be noticeable. What's worse? Some of us fall for it.
Some might ask: Do you want their acceptance? The better question to ask is: Why does it matter?
Remnants of tribalism are etched into our psyches after thousands of years of evolution . Thousands of years ago, if you weren't accepted by the group, ostracism truly was a death sentence.
Now, it just means that you've got one less asshole in your life to contend with. We're humans. Acceptance is nice to have, but fortunately no longer required for life. Not everybody is going to like you. But not everybody matters.
